Exploring the Role of #WIPO and IIPC in #Saffron #TradeMarketing & #Branding
Ever wondered how significant is the role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the help of the Iran Intellectual Property Center (#IIPC) in Saffron Trade Marketing and Branding across the globe? WIPO has played a critical role in safeguarding the authenticity and value of Saffron, the world’s most costly spice. They are instrumental in defending saffron business identifiers including #patents, #trademarks, and #geographicalindication rights on a global scale.
#Ravang, as an Iranian senior #saffronprocessing company, would like to share informative findings about their “trademarks and branding” services.
1) What is a trademark? A trademark is a sign capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one enterprise from those of other enterprises.
2) How can one protect a particular trademark? At the regional level, trademark protection can be obtained by filing an application for registration with the regional trademark office and paying the required fees. At the international level, you can file a trademark application with the trademark office or you can use WIPO’s Madrid System.
3) What rights does trademark registration provide? A trademark registration will confer an exclusive right to the use of the registered trademark. This implies that the trademark can be exclusively used by its owner, or licensed to another party for use in return for payment. Registration provides legal certainty and reinforces the position of the right holder, for example, in case of litigation.
4) How long does trademark protection last? The term of trademark registration can vary, but initial protection shall not be less than 7 years. They offer ten years of protection for Iranian clients. It can be renewed indefinitely on payment of additional fees. Trademark rights are private rights and protection is enforced through court orders.
More information and deep visions about this interesting topic shall be found in the first international seminar on the “Branding of Saffron” which was held by the presence of respected experts from WIPO ( @Andrew Michael Ong @Jacky Charbonneau @Violeta Ghetu) and IIPC ( @Siyamak Eslami, @ Mehrdad Karimzadeh).
